Each expression in the set resurrects a brand once bottled for medicinal purposes during the dry years — its label and character rebuilt from documents preserved in the distillery archive. The current, third edition gathers Henry Watterson, Kentucky River, John G. Carlisle, Walter B. Duffy and Cove Spring — five distinct styles, from straight rye at barrel strength to wheated bourbon, each at its own proof.
The collection changes entirely with every annual edition: different labels, different recipes, a different glimpse into the era. It is less a whiskey release than a work of institutional memory — the distillery telling the story of how bourbon survived its own prohibition.
Five styles, one dry decade.
No official tasting notes are published for the set — each of the five bottles carries its own character and proof, from a 140.6-proof straight rye to a wheated bourbon at 120.2. Notes to be confirmed with the brand team per bottle.
Buffalo Trace Distillery
The distillery’s history begins in 1775, when Leestown was established on a bend of the Kentucky River at Frankfort — a crossing the buffalo had already chosen. Its name comes from those ancient pathways, the traces carved through the wilderness by migrating herds. Bourbon has been made on the same ground for more than two hundred years, which makes it, by its own account, the oldest continually operating distillery in America.
