An estate distillery in Sligo, named for a rock that inspired Yeats — and home to the first Irish whiskey released under the Sazerac name.

Hawk's Rock Distillery takes its name from a prominent outcrop in the Ox Mountains — the one that inspired W.B. Yeats' play At the Hawk's Well. Past the distillery runs the River Garavogue, through Sligo town and into the Atlantic Ocean. In this corner of Ireland, landscape and literature share a watershed.
The Sazerac Company came to County Sligo in 2022, acquiring what was then Lough Gill Distillery — an estate of over a hundred acres, including the historic Hazelwood House. It has since tripled the warehouse capacity, expanded production and set a new name over the door. The stated mission: to blend time-honoured traditions with bold innovation in the art of Irish whiskey-making.
The whiskey is guided by Master Blender Helen Mulholland, the first woman Master Blender in the history of Irish whiskey. Its first release under the Hawk's Rock name is Garavogue — a twenty-year-old single malt named for the river and, as the house puts it, a bridge between past and present.
